The Importance of Water!

Like most people involved in health I am a strong believer in the importance of water both for our health and for the health of our skin. We can survi...
ve for some time without food, but only a short time without water. Thatís how critical it is. Every organ in our body requires it to function properly, but did you know your skin is that last organ to benefit from that glass of water you just drank? So drinking at least eight 8oz glasses a day is critical not only to your health, but also for your skinís health.

Donít be fooled by thinking that sugary drink is doing the work of water for rehydrating your body or skin. In fact sugar is damaging to our cells. There is strong evidence that links excess sugar not only to obesity but also to cancer and premature aging. Sugar causes our cell walls to become brittle and then lose their precious life giving water, that in turn leads to premature aging and disease. In the US sugar consumption has skyrocketed in the past few decades in part because itís added into nearly every processed food and hides under many different names but also because we drink far more sugary drinks now than we did in previous decades. For example when I was young having a soda was a special 'treat' not a daily drink. Having sugar free soda isnít a good substitute and some say they may be even worse.

Water; its importance to your health cannot be overstated. So put down that sugary drink and get into the habit of drinking water.

Here are 5 easy tips to make sure you are getting enough:

1. Start your day with 16 ounces, drink it first thing in the morning before you have that cup of coffee. Add a slice of lemon if you like.
You'll find this is a great way to start your day. And once you get into the habit youíll find you crave it! Some say starting the day with 24 or more ounces is even better. I do this.

2. Skip the soda at lunch and have a big glass of water instead

3. Most of us have something to drink on hand during the afternoon. I know of lot of people who always seem to have a can of soda with them. Keep a glass or bottle of water with you instead! Sip water through the afternoon instead of that 12 oz can (or two) of soda!

4. Have a glass of water before dinner, and another with dinner.

5. Make a practice of having an 8 oz glass before you retire for the night as well.

If it seems like I am saying you should be drinking water all day, I am! Once you start this and your body gets used to it I think youíll find itís not a burden or a chore and before long your find that you donít have water handy youíll crave it

Eight 8oz glasses is a good generalization, but we are all different, so how much does YOUR body really need? A good estimation is to take your body weight and divide it in two. If itís hot, or youíve been sweating you will need more.

When I started my habit of drinking water throughout the day I saw the difference both in my overall health as well as in my skin!

I make skin care products without water so that toxic preservatives are completely avoided, but I cannot stress enough that water is absolutely great for your skin and best applied from the inside out!
