Are You Starving Your Skin?
As important as it is to use pure clean skin products to avoid putting toxins into your body through your skin what you put into your body matters too!
“You are what you eat” is not just a catchy phrase, it’s the truth! The healthier the foods you eat the better your skin looks. There are Doctors who say that skin conditions like acne and chronic conditions like eczema are linked to diet. So, don’t starve your skin!
Here are some foods that are particularly healthy: Healthy skin cells depend on vitamin A. While you may know that vitamin A is rich in foods like Sweet Potatoes, dark leafy greens, Apricots or Sweet Red Peppers and are great for your skin you might be surprised to learn that dairy products are high in vitamin A, and yogurt which also contains live bacteria that’s great for digestion – which in turn is also critical for healthy looking skin!
Berries and dark fruits like plums are also rich in antioxidants which are great for skin. The antioxidants and phytochemicals in these fruits can protect help protect skin cells.
Essential Fatty Acids are very important not only to your overall health, but your skin too! Salmon, Walnuts, Flax Seeds are rich sources. Fish don’t actually produce EFA’s they store them from the algae they eat. So don’t overlook whole foods like whole grains, fruits, seeds or nuts. Walnuts are an excellent source of Omega-3’s! Dark green veggies like kale, collards, chard and even seaweed are also great sources because all chlorophyll-rich green foods contain Omega-3 fats. And don’t overlook that parsley, it’s a rich source of nutrients!
Ditch the ‘white foods’! White flour foods & sugars not only are a key contributor to weight gain because they are what trigger insulin production, and insulin is your ‘fat hormone’ – but they also cause inflammation in our cells which according to many experts is one of the contributors to poor health.
Water! I can’t say this enough. Dehydration is not only a contributor to poor health, it also makes skin look dry or sallow, and contributes to skin aging. You are not going to get the hydration your body and your skin needs from soda. It’s water your body and skin is thirsty for! If you aren’t drinking enough water there is no magic formula cream or lotion that will make your skin look great.
Here’s to our health!
